A blocking bet is used when you think you might have the best hand after the river card, but you are not entirely sure. A blocking is usually made against a single opponent, when you are out of position so that after the river card is turned over, you are first to act. Even though being out of position is normally a disadvantage, by putting in a blocking bet here, you are actually negating your opponent’s positional advantage...read more here

Great post jimmy. This move has proved itself time and time again. I use it alot when in tourny's and its down to "good" players. I change up and between this and check raising when i have strong hands.

Good luck on the felts

in the long run this play can be very profitable and should be a weapon in every poker players arsenal. i find that it works a lot better against good players than it does against bad players though.

Blocking bets are the best way to turn a bad position into a good postion for sure, and I do agree that bad players will disregard this and call anyway lol! Calling stations are what they are, but this can be used against good players and it can usually throw off the aggressive player too especially when you have established yourself as a tight player. Goes back to Allen Cunninghams article about Establishing a tight player image. Use these hand in hand... and I'd bet the chips roll in a lil' better.
