Playing Emotions
Don't Play When Mad, Sad, or in a Generally Bad Mood
When you play poker, you shouldn't do it to escape from being depressed or having a really bad day. You start out on tilt -- playing emotionally, not rationally -- and you won't play your best. Likewise, if during a poker game, you lose a big hand or get sucked out on and feel yourself going on tilt, stand up & take a break until you feel calm later on. Fellow players will sense your mood & take advantage of it.
Good luck on the felts

Re: Playing Emotions
Great post Clint, I think most of us have played aleast one game where our head wasn't in it. You do need to be focused on your game, or fall to defeat

Re: Playing Emotions
probablly 1 of the hardest places to keep my anger in-check is in ring games. Aggressive players that like to raise big preflop push me off hands that i would like to see a flop with, i get angry and start making foolish calls and loose alot of chips. What i should do is wait him out or leave and find a different table. The Lion side of me wants to pounce and kill this chip thief!!!!

Re: Playing Emotions
You just have to be a little more patient with those types of players until the opportunity presents itself. The beauty is, most of the time you will not even have to do any work, they'll just hang themselves and fall right into the trap The key is patients, but I totally agree that if you feel aggravated or tilting then get up or switch tables or what ever you need to do to calm down...

I totally agree. I don't get mad, I just get even; by watching them hang them self.

Re: Playing Emotions
emotions have everything to do with poker. if you are not into the game, 99% of the time you will lose. you need to be calm, cool, and collective in the game of poker. if i find myself letting my emotions get the best of me, i'll sit out, get up and go smoke a butt on the porch, gain my composure back and jump back into the game. alot of times i've played tourneys where my head wasn t into it and always found i was on the losing end of the chip stack.

if your gonna play with emotions go fall in love or something no room for that at the poker table fastest way to lose your chipies is to play the hand right after u take a bad beat get up walk away clear your head and then sit down and get the donkey.
